Mission Statement

It is the mission of the Tennessee Valley Wood Carving School to promote the art of woodcarving and fellowship. These classes are taught by highly skilled instructors, well known in their field of expertise, with room and board included at a very reasonable fee. There are classes for all levels of skill. Some are experienced carvers who simply want to sharpen their skills while others are only beginners. Each year wood carving students from around the country gather at the 4-H camps in Crossville and Greeneville, Tennessee for three days of intense lessons in the fine art of carving.

Background

The Tennessee Valley Wood Carving School is a Tennessee based company founded in 1990 by the late Jack and Joyce Phillips to preserve the art of woodcarving and to bring people together from all walks of life to share carving techniques with one another. The goal of the school is to provide instructors who are master carvers to teach all levels of carvers from the beginner to the professional. Students gather to cut, chip, shave, sand, polish, and paint images of birds, animals, and humans...from the detailed and accurate to the whimsical and mystical. The profits from the school come not only from tuition, but from the sale of woodcarving supplies.
